I grew up in North Las Vegas. I attended St. Christopher & Maranatha Academy, Woodbury & Swainston middle schools and Cheyenne High School.

I have been involved in the North Las Vegas Community, serving on the North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and the McCool Airfield Advisory Committee. I have also served as Chair of the North Las Vegas Citizen’s Advisory Committee.

We are facing some of the most challenging times in our city’s history, from record unemployment to rampant foreclosures. It’s time we as citizens rise together and chart a new course for our City. We need to bring more transparency to city government. North Las Vegas is one of the most insulated local governments in Southern Nevada, at times un-attentive to our citizens needs, and unattainable to hear our citizen’s desires. One way to make Government more accessible and accountable is to broadcast City Council meetings over the internet, so those who can’t attend meetings can tune in and see what’s going on.

We need to bring more accountability to City government, and bring City spending in line with our new economic reality. One way to bring more accountability to city government is to mandate that the City’s check book be posted on-line, so all citizens can see how their tax dollars are spent.

Finally, we must find a way to generate new jobs. There will be no end to the foreclosure crisis that is destroying our home values if our citizens can’t find work. We should offer incentives for small businesses to locate in North Las Vegas, and cut bureaucratic red tape for businesses already operating in our City.

Together, we can make a better North Las Vegas for future generations. These are just some of my ideas. And I’m sure you have your own. I have decided to run for North Las Vegas City Council, Ward 2. I want to start a conversation about the future of our city. I hope you will join with me over the next few months, your support and participation is eagerly awaited.

Sincerely,

William Robinson
Candidate, North Las Vegas City Council, Ward 2
